L’Étape Bulgaria 2025: Recap of the successful 3rd edition
On August 10th, the picturesque town of Peshtera roared to life with the third edition of L’Étape Bulgaria — and for the first time, this celebrated cycling event found its home here in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains. While previous editions also explored the beauty of the Rhodopes, Peshtera’s warm welcome and spectacular setting elevated the race to new heights. With over 1,200 cyclists taking the start, this was more than a competition; it was a festival of endurance, camaraderie, and passion for the sport.

Four formats offered something for everyone: the Long Race (112 km with 2,200 m of climbing), the Short Race (58 km with 1,100 m of ascent), the Kids Race, and the Fun Ride. For the Short Race, riders completed one lap of the circuit, while the Long Race doubled the challenge with two. A true test for both body and mind!
The course itself was a masterpiece, blending challenge and beauty in perfect harmony. From the start line in Peshtera, riders faced the legendary Saint Konstantin climb, a winding ascent that rewarded determination with breathtaking views. They traced the tranquil shores of Batak Lake, rolled through the historic streets of Batak, and then powered back toward Peshtera, where jubilant spectators lined the finish to welcome them home.
The resounding success of the event owes much to the unwavering support of the Municipality of Peshtera, whose commitment turned the vision into reality. From meticulous route preparation to safety measures and community engagement, the town embraced the Tour de France spirit and created an atmosphere worthy of cycling’s greatest traditions.
For many participants, this was more than just a race, it was a taste of the professional peloton experience, complete with closed roads, support vehicles, and the thrill of the chase. L’Étape Bulgaria continues to champion cycling culture and active living, not just in Peshtera, but across the country. With each edition, Bulgaria strengthens its position on the map as a destination for world-class cycling events.
If this year’s edition proved anything, it’s that Peshtera offers the perfect formula: a stunning and challenging route, a passionate local community, and the shared belief that cycling is not just a sport, it’s a way of life.
